Post subject:  Kio & Goldfish feed

Hi all,
I have 2 Kio length @ 75mm and 4 Goldfish @ 50mm and I’m feeding this product called Ridley Fry Start (Cumble) photo below. My system is quite small (270 ltr FT)

Is this good food for the size of fish I currently have given the criteria of the feed?
At what stage or to be more precise at what fish size shall I upgrade to pellet feed and to what size pellets?
I’m concerned that my goldfish won’t be willing to eat pellets?

Actually at min 54% protein its better than they really need. I use 3mm floating pellets because I have a range of different sized goldfish and trust me goldfish are gluttons, they will eat anything they can get in their mouths.
If you have no duckweed or algae for them to feed on I recommend shelled frozen baby peas occasionally ie defrost and squeeze them. You are more likely to kill goldfish by feeding them too much; bit like humans when you think about it.

Cool thanks for the advice! I’ll keep feeding them this until it runs out then get 3mm pellets and also do what you suggested with the peas. I’ve also read that you can give them carrot skin and lettuce leaves on occasion too!
How often do you feed your goldfish?

Only usually every 2 days however mine are in a large pond so they get to forage. In nature they would be eating small amounts regularly so its better to feed that way rather than a large amount all at once, goldfish have no stomach so their digestive system is slightly different from a fish which has a stomach and is able to process it there before passing it to the gut. :)

Yes I’ve read that they don’t have a stomach as such. I’m getting into the habit when it is the day to feed them that I pre soak the feed with FT water in a container for a minute or so before releasing it into the FT. I’m also going to spread out the feeding twice a day by splitting the amount to try and mimic their nature environment like you mentioned.

I’ve also read that water temperature can be a factor on how much and how often you feed Kio / Goldfish.
