I'm thinking of starting an aquaponic system with either tilapia or Redfin perch. I am not too keen to have 100% formulated feed as I feel that this does not reflect the real diet fish have in the wild. In view of live food that can be easily produced, BSFL is a good option from what I've found but I can't seemed to find much information about these other live food I.e. Dubai roach and waxworm. Most of the information available are directed towards reptilian keeper and they have mentioned about dusting the feeder insect before feeding. Waxworm and mealworms is also not advised to be used as a stapled overdue to it calcium : phosphorus ratio. Has anyone used this insect to feed fish before? Does the information for reptile feed apply to fish feeding? They seemed to be easily cultivated and prolific breeder in a small greenhouse with a heater mat. Regards Daniel |

Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum I have only fed the occasional Mealy Worm or Black Soldier Fly larvae along with commercial fish chow and worms to Bluegill and Catfish so I can't answer your question but maybe someone here can. Cheers |
