Has anyone tried using straw bales in their AP systems?

I'm not interested in using them as part of a structure nor as insulation.

Use them as a fish solids filter/trap? Maybe fish fertilizing a green wall of bales?

Would they create to much humidity or change the pH badly in a recirculating system?

I'd imaging they'd rot down pretty quickly, and work it's way through your system.

I also know there are some algaecides that are made from concentrated straw extract, but I don't know how concentrated it needs to be for it to kill off plants.

..
Plus one to the rotting, and then what would that do to the nitrates etc..
The question seems to be searching for an alternative product as Bio filtration.. that search would start with a non rotting material.. one that is completely innert..
I was considering bird netting, stuffed tight into a large tube or a small olive drum.. ie something sealed and pressurized ..
