Hi

My name is Angelo,

just a quick few questions.

1, could sprats or any other smaller fish be used that would be consumed not like gold fish etc?

2, other than fish what else could be used for aquaponic? (shrimp, crabs etc?)

3, finally if i had a home algae farm could the biomass part not the food be used for a aquatic food? on its own or with other foods?

thanks Angelo.

Anything that lives in the water can be used

I'm not sure of your question here, but I'll take a chance...

Within any system, not just within aquaponics, you cant take out more of anything than you put in.

If you plan on eating any part of what grows in your aquaponics system, you need to add fish feed.

If you wanted to make a system that ran without any input, you would need to feed your fish 100% of what you grow in the grow bed.

99.9% of the time

Aquaponics is solar powered. Sunlight makes plants turn carbon from the air into plant stuff. But in some circumstances it can also grab some other stuff from the air like nitrogen. But mostly you can think of it as a way to turn fish food into human food. What goes in comes out.

But it tastes much better than fish food :)

Do some research on Green Water Aquaculture. Much better bet than trying to grow algae in an AP system.
