| Post subject: | Feeding fingerling SP |
Hey guys. It seems like I ask a lot questions and don't offer much in return on this forum, but I'm new and trying to get it sorted. I have just added my SP fingerlings to my tank and I'm a little confused on feeding, I have read almost everywhere that a rough guide is how much they eat in a time frame between 3-5mins But they don't eat while I watch, I go back a bit later and it's all gone, so I don't actually know if it's eaten or sank? SP are a very skittish species and rarely feed whilst you are watching. |

...and if you're water temp is below about 14C they probably aren't eating. At least that's what I've found with mine... as soon as the water temp hits 14C they stop feeding. If it lifts just one degree they start feeding again. If they aren't eating the feed will sinking to the bottom, you need to clean that out of the fish tank with a siphon or similar. |

Yea Id be surprised if they are feeding although Kal has had a few warmish days in a row. During the winter months Id normally feed the SP small amounts of either worms, prawn, yabbies and lettuce. |

I'm hoping to get some shortly from Gidgegannup. They were in stock a few weeks ago, hoping that they still are in a couple weeks when I am ready. I'm not expecting them to really get into the feed until it's warmer though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

SP are one of the very few species that survive well all year round, they do become quite dormant in the winter months but they keep kicking none the less. I wouldn't stock small fingerlings in winter though if your local temps drop right off at night. |
