Hey guys,
I know this will be hard to answer, but how much feed should 25 Rainbow trout go through in a season?
The reason for the question is I want to grab enough feed for them for at least a couple of months as I am a couple hours away from BYAP shop and don't head to Perth too regularly.
Is there some sort of guide like 1 Trout should eat roughly 750g of feed (18kg in total)

I appreciate any input.

I wrote up how much feed my 80 starters, 73 harvested to eat trout ate and the conversion efficiency, in my system thread here:

Nearly 35kg of feed for 73 trout= 480g each.

My yearlings ate approx 15-20kg of feed last year. I had them from june-november
*30 trout

You should be fine with a 20kg bag. A large bag buys you time anyways if you are getting close to the end of it.

So today was the first time I weighed how much I fed the fish.
The 25 trout went through 50g of feed. I only feed once a day in the afternoon when I get home from work.
I caught one fish to weigh and it was 77g

Does this sound about right or too much? Works out to about 2.7% body weight.

My 20 go thru about 100g per day but that is spread over three feeds, probably good if you could organize at least two feeds a day they would be a bit bigger by the end of the season.

Yea just found a few old threads that say they will eat more.
I will try to see if they eat before I go to work. That's at 6:30 am.
They didn't seem too interested when I tried that early once before.

If its light by 6.30am and they can see the food they should be pretty hungry by morning.

that sounds almost perfect. We always aim for 3% for trout in aquaculture, but as it gets below 10 degrees we scale that back to 2ish. Sometimes you have to feed 4-5 times a day to achieve this in really cold temps. This all applies up till 300-400g.. above that they start eating less each day.

You should get close to 1 FCR, so for every 100g you put in your fish will grow 100g assuming you are using a commercial diet from ridley or skretting.
