Got heaps of these in the garden lately. I used to call these spitfires as a kid, but don't know what their proper name is.

Are they safe to feed to the fish?

I definitely would not let my fish eat spitfires so I urge you to similarly refrain. There are two types of spitfires: one is a caterpillar and the larvae of a moth (Mottled Cup Moth), and the other the larvae of a wasp but not a true caterpillar. Both produce a poison. Your photo shows the moth larvae.

Dont think the fish will like them
Quote:
When threatened the larvae will raise their head and eject a yellow-green liquid.
It is this action that gives them their common name of 'spitfires'.
This strong smelling liquid consists predominantly of eucalyptus oil and is used as a deterrent against predators.

they're not spitfires (sawfly) but a moth caterpillar not sure what moth though.
My chooks won't touch them so don't think the fish will either
