Does anyone know of a commercial fish food source (suitable for AP, of course) that is certified to be free of GMO ingredients?

The only one that I've found so far is Premium's organic formula, which is very expensive compared to their other formulas. Also I personally don't like the makeup of that formula, because it seems to be mostly vegetable based, and doesn't contain animal proteins. Their list of ingredients can be seen here:
http://premiumfishfood.com/ultimate-org ... -food.html

I'm just interested in seeing if there are other available GMO-free options. I would prefer not to have a debate about the safety of GMOs on this thread, because it would be nice if we could stay on track to find the available food options. There is currently a GMO discussion/debate on this other current thread, if anyone is interested in joining in: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=17541.

As a feed for the species specified... it's probably completely valid... those species are essentially herbivores...

That's a good point, Rupe. I should've given a different link than the catfish one. They recommend the same food for perch, bluegill, and tilapia. If you follow their links for the organic formulas for those other species, you'll see the ingredients and analyses are the same:

A lot of fish species have short intestinal tracts... which just can't process animal protein... as efficiently as plant based proteins...

A lot of fish meal based feeds... (not common to see land based animal feed content these days)... are more for provision of the species required "fatty acid"/amino acid balance.. than for the protein...

Interesting. What would you think about someone using Premium's organic formula for goldfish?

That looks like the product I use. I did not buy it directly from them, I bought it from a website that actually posted their phone number. I have a thing about that. No phone member looks shady to me. My tilapia seem to like it, but it does cloud the water some.

This is one I just found:
http://www.theaquaponicstore.com/AquaOr ... fab001.htm

I like that I could order that one through Amazon.com, without having to create a new account. It looks like the shipping is about $10 for a 5lb bag.

Ron - it looks like this site has a phone number listed. :) I also don't like it when they don't give a number.

It amazes me that there are so many ingredients and what they are, all for fish food. Why is that?
Orange peel, dandelion, cayenne pepper...... What kind of gourmet eaters are these fish anyway, looks like they are getting seasoned as they grow... :)

This is purely a guess on my part but I think that there may be some basic ingredients and then he is using some mineral supplement which has the encyclopedia of ingredients.

Wow! That is a lot of ingredients. I would imagine a lot of the meals that are listed come from pressed oil production. The rest would be to fortify it with a broad range of nutrients, and to make it palatable to the fish. Acidophilus is the surprise ingredient to me.

First on the list is rapeseed meal (call it what it is); while this may have been developed by selective breeding is there any country that can claim its 'organic'. There again if you use a GM crop and don't use etc etc you have GM organic food.
