How much are you after?

for 20kg bags you could try getting it posted from Grobest Australia (http://www.bignutrition.com.au). If you buy in bulk, I highly recommend storing it in large, sealed plastic pails eg 20 litre buckets, that way it will last for months and not spoil due to moisture getting in etc. This may be the most economical option?

or buy online from Backyard Aquaponics - postage shouldn't be too exy ?

or I know a bloke who runs aquaculture operations and sells feed up near you in Newcastle, PM me if you want his number as I'm not sure if he'd like me giving it out on a public forum

I introduced Neil at Aquablue to the forum years ago Jono... if that's who you're thinking of... he doesn't mind at all... :D

Now if it's Nick... that might be another story...

And I can certainly help you out Baz... :D

Definitely want to keep moisture.. and vermin out.... but if you're storing in plastic buckets/bins... just make sure you keep them in a cool dry place... otherwise they pellets will "sweat" during summer...

Some people actually vacuum pack, and freeze excess feed...

20kg at a time should be fine.....I will probably only have about 10 fish.

How long would that last??

Too much for 10 fish... it would probably spoil before you could use it...

Your fish will go off the feed through winter... and benefit from grading to a bigger pellet as the grow...

10 fish grown to 600gm... at an FCR of 1.5.... would require 9kg of feed in total...

Wow...thought they would eat more than that.

So how many fish roughly in an IBC set up with one feed bed using silver perch or trout??

How long till you have trout that I can buy??

Cheers for all the help and info

If the grow bed is the top cut off the IBC... then it's about 250L...

So 10 fish is about right...

No trout left this year... it's getting a bit late to grow them out before spring/summer water temps get too high...

Have you got your system up and cycling/running?

Not yet...be a few weeks.

So just for the record Trout wont survive over summer?

I will go Silver Perch first time around....will they handle the summer??

If not what will.

Cheers

Silver Perch, like all of our native fish... prefer they warmer water for growth...

During winter their metabolism drops with water temperature... and growth is slow/minimal...

But silvers are near bullet proof... and a great fish to start with...
