Seems to me that a bug zapper hung over your fish tank could provide a lot of food. Anyone try this? |

i've seen a few setups with a bug light over the tank, never used one myself... i put a small led pond light under my gb outlets, i think it was 4 watts, always attracted bugs |

Check out the thread for 'PLJ's Big Concrete Tank'. He has a bug zapper hanging out over the water and its provides extra feed units. |

I'm using a mesh fly trap and it is very effective. I think it has reduced the amount of flies in my yard by around 70%. I keep chickens so I do get a lot of flies. I empty out the trap by jiggling it in my fishtank like a teabag, let it dry then it's good to go again. Cheaper than a bug zapper and uses no electricity. |

I've also been thinking about Army worms. In the early summer my trees are covered with them. I have enough that I could freeze them . Will fish eat frozen worms? |

or you could go hi tech and get one of these! uses light and heat to attract bugs and then catches them in a sealed box.

They have one similar in bunn1ngs that also emits CO2 to attract mozzies. Was thinking of giving it a go cause we have monskeetas here and another example of where the problem can become the solution I.e. trout food. |

sorry for late reply I got it from the Reject Shop but when I went back for more they didn't have any left! I even tried several other Reject shops , red dots etc and nobody has them . The resident Willywagtail has pecked some holes in mine trying to get at the flies so I'm keen to find more of these traps also. There are a few similar ones on ebay or shouldn't be hard to DIY |

The bottom has 3 clips which holds a bait dish. I use leftover gravy/curry/cat food as bait . The tape around the top is to cover the holes pecked by the bird. To empty, unclip the bait dish and teabag the mesh trap in the fishtank , the fish get a feed in the process. Apart from flies it also attracts katydids, wasps and crickets. and ants if you are not careful where you hang it.

Same bait for wasps? We have plenty more than enough around my house. |
