So I'm getting ready to get my tilapia fingerlings next weekend and I want to have some food ready. I'd like to be as economical as possible and since these guys are omnivores, I'd imagine I'd be able to feed them leafy veggies that have moved past the stage where they are appetizing to us people types. I've heard of people tossing in lettuce leaves, but is there anything that I shouldn't feed the fishies? I'm obviously not going to throw in a Snickers bar, but can I feed them carrots, or bits of apple or rice, etc...? Not trying to be cheap or anything (ok, I am Thanks! Paul |

I have not gotten my tilapia to eat anything but feed and catapelars. They are very disinterested in veggies, and they end up just becoming a nuisance in the fish tank. I am going to invest in a bipod. I think that the tilapia would likely eat the BSF larvae, and they reduce kitchen waste to almost nothing in a day. |

I might be able to get a BSF biopod if I hide it from my wife... She killed the idea almost as fast as raising chickens |

The idea is that they colonize the biopod themselves. If it you can keep it warm it will last through winter. If you keep them well ded, they might keep themselves warm. |
