Running really low on fish food (Food bought from BYAP), but worse than that have run out of money. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stretch the remaining food until pay day? (just after christmas) Could I mix in rice, bread, rolled oats or TURKEY. Will have lots of that Have 56 small plate size HUNGRY Barra. Have plenty of worms but I have never seen them eat one. THANKS

I believe that most fish can go up to a week without eating.. .so just cut down the feed and they should be fine...... jT |

garbage picking? go to the grocery stores and check the dumpsters. I used to go there to feed my bugs and rats. |

Have you got dog biscuits or cat biscuits? Most fish like them if they can fit them in their mouths. |

a mix of the stuff you have ground up and dried might be good. If you have some screening the size of the pellets they are used to try forcing it through the screen and scraping it off like an extrusion pasta maker. toss it in the oven with the door cracked a bit to dry it on low heat and you would have homemade pellets. I had a pelleting machine and would dry them in my dehydrator but the screen method worked for me before. I used a plastic bladed tool for bondo to scrape the goop off. I would add flour to get it doughy as if its to sticky its just sticks back together as it goes through the screen. It took a while to get a mix right doing this with left over brewing grains and other garbage including table scraps but makes a good mix for dang near free. I would not really trust it nutritionally but my friend would feed this trash mix to his fish he would breed about half the time as the brewing grains where his so half the mix was his. Before I bought a pelleting machine I was thinking of making a sausage stuffer into one with a rotating powered cutter on the front to slice them off as they went through the holes but after calculating how many it would do it was not worth it compared to getting a real unit. |

My silvers eat egg. A few seconds in the microwave of scrambled and they love it. Dunno about Barra tho |

Fish can go 3 weeks wothout a feed. I quite often isolate fish that dont look healthy and stop feeding them for a couple of weeks. |

Grab a solar light(your garden or borrow a neighbours  ) and put it on something that floatsthat should attract a few bugs for them to eat |

THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE Barra don't like scrambled eggs, probably because it sinks and Barra are snappers. Can't use a light cause I have s backyard full of frogs and they eat all the flying things, but that gave me an idea for last nights tea Tadpoles: got the kids to catch them. Dog biscuits went down a treat for breakfast. THANKS |

I had a pond with bass and they jumped out of the water for steamed rice or bread crumbs. |

After all the sludge on the bottom of the fish tank this morning dog biscuits dont appear to have gone so well. Looks like they'll just have to diet. |

Try to spice the dog biscuits with tuna oil or a bait enhancer, that worked for me on organic pellets while back. |

i recently read that garlic (powder) can be used to stimulate fish appetite.. but i have not tried any tests yet |
