How long can you expect to keep fish feed bagged and frozen for?

I order 8 to 10 bags at a time and keep them in an old drink fridge(turned off). Never had any go off and it take a year or so to use it all.

If it's freeze-dried, it'll last quite a while. I think there are guidelines, but how long it actually lasts "depends" on how you store it (air tight container), where you store it (lighting,temperature), and the type of food and moisture in the food.

Consider investing in a vacuum sealer. I buy my food in bulk too, seal it up (not vacuum but I'm considering it), and then throw it in a deep freezer. I package them in small bags and put them in a larger bag. This way, you grab just what you need. If you keep it in one big bag and constantly open it to take stuff out, it won't last as long.

Between the fact that it's a dry feed and frozen, I don't think I will have to worry about it before I run out.

The important thing is to quickly repackage them and not let it out in the open for too long. If you do that, even if you don't freeze it.

I vac seal mine and so far so good. The stuff I got 12 months ago the silvers are hitting big time

We turn over our feed in about a month here... I have kept feed for quite a while in the past at home though....

All depends on what the food is made from and how it's stored. I've had Rangel get maggots in 2 months if not sealed or frozen.

Dont forget, just because it looks ok, doesnt mean it is.
I would always freeze any food - even if its going to be used quickly.
Unidentifiable fish deaths can come from old food.

I've fed mine mouldy old feed before but never had any deaths... Maybe I've been lucky.. :dontknow:

I use a Mini Wheely Bin which is in a chest freezer. The other bag of Aus Native just sits in there with the top open which I decant into a large coffee jar and lasts 3-4 days. Have not had any problems, yet.

Last two bags of skrettings I got 6 months ago are just sitting in the bottom of a chest freezer with tops open, and I also just fill up plastic jars about weekly

Skretting told me directly that they recomend that feed is used within 12 months of manufacture but as long as the feedhas not gone rancid it should be ok. They said that the ingredients are in a stable form so should last a long time without degrading and any decrease in nutritional value.
They recommend feed be stored below 25 degrees in sealed containers or bags in a dry envrionment away from sunlight.
Moisture is really bad because it increases the chances of the food going rancid. - I wouldn''t leave the feed bags open in the freezer.
