Well, we got something that might make a suitable BSF bin.

I'm not quite sure why, but some friends of ours dropped off two of these feed hoppers off at our house while we were gone. They are just the hopper without any other parts (no lids, no hanging parts, no augers, etc.)

Anyway, I figured that I could try and make a ramp around in it and prop it up by the catfish tank.

Make a swirl filter out of the other :-)

The thought crossed my mind but I really don't need a swirl filter so I might just make it a sort of grow bed.

or use the other to experiment with fluidised sand filters

Do silvers eat BSF?

Yep - they love all sorts of bugs (BSF are delicacies)

Cool, I've got an endless supply of food scraps and I've been killing my compost worms with the load.

There needs to be a "no" option

You need more fish. Or another system.

Trying to do both, without getting divorced

I suppose that would list under the see a problem option.

Keep in mind that where BSF larva are living, they tend to keep other flies away.

Came across this little gem on a vermicomposting site I follow. I thought it was a fairly clever implementation. Ruggedly simple.
