If you were to put the slug(s) and a bunch of worms through a meat mincer would the fish eat it then?

possibly tschad - I've never gotten worked up enough to find out as there's no shortage of worms. If I get bored one day I'll try it out and post the results - my suspicion is that it's the external slime the fish don't like.

I wonder how the slugs would fare in the bipod? I know you are going for diversity in the feed, but that may be a way to use the extra protein...

Knocked up this worm farm tonight from a couple of left over tubs that were lying around. Started it off with a good lot of half rotted spent brewing grain from the compost bin that had a heap of worms already , kitchen scraps , and a handful of dolomite, water and covered with some old cardboard and tight fitting lid.
Worm juice here we come :)

I got to get mine started, but since I'll be putting it on the back porch near the kitchen door I will have to "save" up and buy proper can-o-worms or worm cafe. My wife would frown on science experiment type stuff in the entertaining area, so pro is the only way to go :)

I use the broccolini foam boxes for my worm farm. I have about 7 stacked on top of each other. They are neat and work well. I have cut an opening in the bottom of them, and glued fibreglass fly wire/shade cloth with silastic. The worms can go from one to the other and juices drain to the bottom one, which has a tap. You could cover with shade cloth apron to look even neater.

Everything goes into my compost. No problems with aphids. Extra food for worms, as they cant live there.

No pics needed Charlie. Put a tap in the bottom tub, drill lots of 5mm holes in the bottoms of all the other tubs and put it together. This one took me all of 15mins
Just got to get tubs that are the same and fit together good.
Oh and there are two bricks in the bottom tub holding the next tub up a bit to give a good resevoir volume

Oh ok, well thats easy enough.

Ive never made one before but Im sure I could manage that. Upon closer inspection I see now that the top tub is fitting inside the bottom so I get what you have done there.

So you dont need ventilation through the bottom section richard

I might knock one of these up tomorrow :thumbright:

How does it go with house flies mantis?

I was planning to do this, but was looking for tubs that sat more snugly on top of each other, as I read somewhere that the holes/gaps need to be small enough to discourage the flys going in.

Also do you find the worms escaping into the juice tray and not getting back to the feed tray? Or the transfer of solids tomthe bottom? Or did you stick fly screenin the bottom?

I was going to DIY a worm farm so I checked out those black tubs in B. $20 bucks each plus the extra bits plus effort (small) to put it all together meant it was far easier to buy the ready to go worm farm instead for about $67.
