Wouldn't it be a problem to consider the lives of animals as being more valuable than the lives of plants or single celled organisms? It seems to me that this would be the logical conclusion to the argument . My personal feeling is that we should value life, on the other hand, all creatures live and all of them die and the bacteria that eventually get most of us probably don't care a whole lot how we classified those items when they were alive.

Regarding the charts with the words Right and Wrong, I could order the images in any number of ways but since I'm human my focus would still be from the viewpoint of a human and I don't think that's wrong any more than thinking the other chart is right. I wouldn't be saying man is more important, just more important to my existence. I acknowledge that I am human without feeling any guilt although I see the gender and species bias in that chart and also on the other chart.

You could argue this sort of thing forever. Basically it's a mishmash of Faith, Science , Spirituality and Experience and probably a few other things. If you believe in the afterlife or in reincarnation, then what meaning would death have? If you don't then the span of every life is precious.

I prefer that no creature had suffering and pain but I've come to the conclusion that this is not possible, even if we strive for it (that doesn't mean we shouldn't try).

death is part of life, which is why i would never be against people eating meat, etc.
but making one species suffer for the comfort of another, that is totally wrong.

one can only experience life from thier own view point, which is something all species have, i feel it is a very sad thing that there are people who empathize with humans but see non human animals as different.

lol bodgy, the left hand "triangle" is the view the churchies in this world have, that is why it makes no sense.

I'm disturbed that not only did I think that the triangle on the left was a pyramid but it seems that I thought that the circle on the right was one too.
Those fish must have been too potent for me.

This is the old version, they've switched now so that the pyramid has a second side. I think we mostly saw the black and white mimeograph of the old version when I was a kid.

I don't know if that statement is more ignorance or intolerance. Tell me of a culture where man is not at the top. Survival of the fittest is perfectly acceptable if man is not involved ? Consider how you base your morality to make the determination for right and wrong.

Yes, consider the morality of believing that we are a species of animal, consider that i dont allow religious brainwashing to pervert my mind into believing such cruel acts are "good".

Now consider that people with your viewpoint are those who allow torture to happen.

That statement was "intolerance" if you want to put it that way, because why should one have to tolerate the idiocy that is spread through such avenues and tolerate the things people who think they are good do in the name of thier god and thier society, acts which are nothing but deplorable and despicable...... however not only "tolerable", but encouraged by churches and its members..

Funny how stuff sticks with you, I went to a LOT of different schools but I remember exactly where I saw it all those years ago.

I think you're pretty much all over the map there Yavi.

Nah i was busy at work when i wrote that, i meant Jainism......

the basic principle is: christian religions (and others, islam, judeism, etc (god based)) teach that "god created the world and the animals for humans" and that we are to "do what we will with them", etc.

It is a rhetoric that i have heard all through out christian society my whole life and the more religious the person, the more they believe such in my experience.
