So I've collected 5-10 of these grubs/pupae I showed above in a container full of soil. Hopefully they will pupate and I can confirm whether they are bsf.

Maggots only eat the parts which has started to rot. They do not eat healthy - not smelly food. So as long as you have a bunch of maggots eating out all the smelly food scraps, then it does not smell bad at all.

My BSF pod is currently producing about 90% maggots which the chooks love. BSF will take over soon once the weather consistently warms up
