These guys claim to be the only people "growing" spirulina in Australia.... and are actually licensed by fisheries to do so.... maybe an email???

Teh maybe related to the gyra strain. Regarding cultures from CSIRO - I wouldn't think they would be available to some bloke wanting to have a go growing in his backyard

Remember the first time I came across it... a mate offered me a bottle of tablets to try some... asked if I wanted the 80% ones or the 100% ones...

Asked him what the difference was..... he said.... "The 80% tastes 80% bad & the 100% tastes 100% bad??!!"

Definitely go the powder... it's easier to disguise in drinks, on your cereal etc...
