BSF related story: I bought a bio-pod at the AquaponicsFest in Colorado, and they gave away bags of grubs along with them. I drove back to California, and set the bin up. Yesterday, I was in my truck and feeling hungry, so I reached for a bag of tortilla chips that had made the trip back from Colorado. As I started munching on the chips, I offered one to my dog, and he passed on it. I didn't think anything of it until I got towards the bottom of the bag and...... OMG THERE"S LARVAE IN MY CHIPS!

I didn't finish the bag.

But seriously they, BSFL, won't do you any harm, in fact they are a very high source of protein for their size, so if your into muscle building and are paying for high protein shakes and supplements ... You might have just found a cheaper supply.
Of course on the other hand... Just to gross you out more...they may have been ordinary fly larvae.

Has anybody on here had much luck feeding the BSFL to their fish?

I haven't heard of many having much luck with it.

Apart from the total turn off attitude, :naughty:
the introduction was obviously seriously lacking in detail as to what he was attempting.. or why..

I doubt that he will be back..

Don't like to sound mean, but why would you spend 5 - 10 minutes setting up a profile to then only wait a few minutes for an answer?

FarmerMichael has contributed since this post. Perhaps he was a tad impatient, but no one is perfect.

Perhaps a bit too much caffeine :headbang: By the way if you don't have enough household waste, coffee grounds would make good BSF food and many small coffee shops would love to be rid of it :thumbright:

Some BSF feed options if you are not to squeamish
- Roadkill
- Struck a deal with your local abattoir

Alternatively they love fresh chicken manure - do you have a local chicken /Egg farm?

Hi,I've had trouble with my tilapia no eating bsf,so I feed when very small or cut the thick skin on older grubs they seem to be able to suck out insides then.
