They suggest 5-10 years before they can develop some similar more sustainable fish food

Are you human?: Yup

So does that mean the pellets I've been using has wild caught fish in it to feed my captive fish? Kinda backwards isn't it?
I wonder what the percentage is?

Yep, I think most, if not all, pellets have wild caught fish in them, which is why I'm keen for the CSIRO to get on with it! ;)

And here Tony Abbott has cut funding, sacking a quarter of the scientist (and others) at CSIRO, 1400 people. They've produced things like this which will create jobs, lower prices of the feed, increase yield and have a massive patent that can potentially bring in massive sums of money.

Hell, without them, I'd have to have a cable plugged into my laptop right now. They invented wifi.

Just watched this program on the novacq prawn pellet on landline. It's a pretty exciting breakthrough by the CSIRO making commercial aquaculture pellets from a sustainable source.

It's still not known what the inputs are in creating this feed as it's a commercial secret. Essentially it's organic and inorganic compounds used to feed aquatic microorganisms which are then filtered out of the water, dried and combined with other ingredients and pelletised. This is used as a prawn feed. Very interesting stuff

Interesting that they suggested it would be another 10 years for the fish food to be developed, is fish food likely to be all that different? ... and I wonder why couldn't you feed the prawn food to fish? Its got to be better than the Blood Worms I'm still having to feed to my Murray Cod.
