I have found that my tilapia in my 55 aquarium love lettuce, especially romaine. The 6 fish will devour several full sized leaves. My question is: Can I put lettuce in the FT in my system? What happens if they don't eat it. My set up with Gb on top, makes it very difficult to access and net out items in the FT. I have about 27-28 fish left in FT...losing track after the power outage and some suicide jumpers. I now have netting to keep them all in the water, where they seem to do much better :D . But, now it even harder to get a net into tank. Not quite sure how I will harvest...maybe a fishing pole.lol

It's quite common to put supplementary feeds into the fish tank...

But often vegetative matter may not be totally consumed... often the stalks/stems remain...

And should be netted out.... if you can't access your tank.. then it is probably advisable that you don't...

Although your tank should have enough movement that any remains should circulate and allow removal...

duckweed is a popular supplementary feed.. and the fish will consume it entirely...

Thanks Rupert. I knew that duckweed was a preferred food, just didn't realize they would devour larger vegetation. i will keep the large out of the FT per your advice...makes perfect sense to me. Maybe a small duckweed tank at some point. The few that I've seen/ read about seem to be a lot of work.
