One of my large and shallow ponds has thousands of tadpoles in it. I like tadpoles and frogs but my fish really need diet supplementation right now. I transferred a scoopful of tadpoles into the trout tank and think I witnessed some subsurface carnage as the rainbows swooped in to investigate their visitors.
I ran out of trout pellets about a month ago but I am determined to get some of my trout past the 500g mark. This new source of fresh/live food may just do it.

High temps destroy E. coli, so you do increase your risk of getting it through plants :-( Cooked mammal meat isn't going to be great for your fish either.

If you want to mix it up, have you looked up home made fish food recipes? Most of the ones that whip up into a larger quantity use beef heart, which is a nutritionally unbalanced food, but people swear by it for some aquarium fish. Keep in mind tho, those people don't eat their fish. It is still mammal meat and it still has risks.

Do you have access to a mulberry tree or two? Dried silkworm pupae seem pretty popular with most fish and are used to improve colour, so my guess is that they'd make a nice weight gain food for plate fish. It might take a while to get enough though. They are easy enough to breed but it might take time to build up numbers. There should be a nutritional chart somewhere, I've seen them for sale commercially in Europe. Not sure you can easily get then in Aus.

I'd try breeding and gut-loading insects or small fish, it seems the safest and most cost effective :-)
