A post the other day on a thread questioned the value of good quality fish food, and I responded with the comment that the Skretting food was supplying all the nutrients in my system as I have not added seasol or any other supplementation at all this calendar year. I left it at that.

However, over the weekend I pulled most of my winter veges and put the non-edible components into my compost heap- which got me thinking - I've used the nutrients from the pellets sequentially to;

- grow my fish
- grow my veges
- grow more veges in my dirt garden.

I think that's pretty impressive and certainly extracting value for money from the pellets :cheers:

The broccoli and cauliflowers that I pulled out have given me around 12kg of plant material that is now in my compost pile and will contribute to growing whatever I grow next in the dirt.

Great point CD, imagine adding worms, rabbits, chickens before the compost or dirt garden. Woah, how much better can it get?
How much bang can you get for your buck? I would love to incorporate the rabbits under my growbed but there is a bit too much cleaning required, though the worms would be ideal.

This is just one of the many reasons that Aquaponics is awesome!!

one of the reasons i built the swirl filter was to give the dirt gardens an AP boost!!

I can't wait to get my chooks...shouldn't be too long!!
