Throw a car cover or similar over the tank to completely black it out, and this will kill the algae in a week or two

Yep I agree with Keith, and Mantis :thumbright:
1. Cover the fish tank - without sun algae can't grow
2. Run the pump full time - overide timer
3. Withold feed until the water starts to clear - fish can live weeks without being fed, so don't stress (our IBC system was green for weeks, now the water is crystal clear and the plants are pumping) nature takes time and fish don't like sudden changes
Have patience, it will happen all by itself Jackfrost

Cheers guys. I'm glad I went to all the trouble of making a fancy pvc cover for the FT so I would see inside not taking the sun into account

Seems like I was not the only one going through the greening phase. :wave1:

Cheers for your advice on the phone Faye, switched the pump on full time and increased the aeration and bingo, two days later the water is perfect.

Having said that, I am now in the same situation with feed. I have 30 silvers (all small 100mm) and the fish have been in for close to 6 weeks now. At what stage do I start to up my feed levels (presently doing 1 teaspoon per afternoon)? Do I wait until the nitrites I have start to drop and the nitrates kick in? Then start to up the feed, or should I just start upping it now irrespective?

Plus, when I do start to feed is this increasing the size of the feed or the frequency (ie. teaspoon in the morning as well)?

Interesting, was just out at my tank and was watching my yabbies having a fight over some pipe. As I have a few sizes, I assumed it was the neatest fitting pipe in there so I put another piece in the same size.
