This is one of my unidentified fish species. We caught them in a local creek about 12 months ago when they were tiny. About 3mm. From above they appear almost white, From the side they are a silvery blue. They have a black spot at the base of the tail. They are a short fat fish.

Dark spot near the base of the tail and blue around the eye... maybe it's an Oxleyan Pygmy Perch: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/species-protection/conservation/what-current/endangered-species/oxleyan-pygmy-perch |

My first thought was - Oops. On the other hand, we know they can be raised in AP so if they need a captive breeding program you're all set. |

I hope you are correct. Sound a lot like the one you have found. I searched for ages before I put the Q up. They are breeding, but unfortunatel found one floated today. I cleaned out the tank they are in and looks like a stone fell on it But there are still abot 20 of different sizes left. |
