Does anyone know the natural patterns of tilapia/bream in the southern part of Africa. I have been trapping small fingerling and fry size tilapia at a local dam with great success. My system was not ready for fish yet so I stocked my friends system first. He had an algae problem and we had to start over stocking. Now that I am ready for fish I can't find them. Before I started in aquaponics I would use a gill net(yes they are legal in Botswana) durring the warmer season. The fish would come in the evening to feed in the shallow weeds. Last year at this time they stopped and now that I am trying to catch little ones in my trap they are gone again. I do have access to a canoe and the body of water gets up to about 6 or 7 meters deep. Keep in mind it is winter here now and the dry season. We don't see rain from about may to december. Any ideas??? Thanks MM |
