Does anyone know if walleye can be used in aquaponics, or have any aquaculture guides for walleye? Does anyone know anything about saugeye and if they’re better eating than walleye? |

Just checked Wiki- They are a pickerel and found in and around Canada, I am just guessing that it lends itself to coldwater culture perhaps. You would have to be able to buy or catch them to stock your system. Wiki also states that they are the best tasting freshwater fish. Rainbow trout would be my choice for cold water cause they are fun, don't think anyone would tell you different around here. |

Search for fish farms in your state and see what kinds of fish they sell for farm pond stocking. If any have walleye, then you might be in luck. I remember walleye were always on the menu at the restaurant I worked at as a teenager back home in Northern Michigan. I never ate it myself though. |

Walleye are a great tasting fish. Only problem is they are pretty slow growing, at least in the wild. It takes at least a couple years to get to decent eating size. They are also predators. So i am not sure if they will eat pellet food. But you can always raise baitfish, and then feed them to the bigger fish. |

I wouldn't bother with Walleye in an AP setup. They are extremely slow growing, are next to impossible to pellet train and have a terrible food conversion rate. They also need fairly cool water during the summer months. If you like the taste of walleye go with yellow perch. They are very closely related and taste and texture is virtually the same. Yellow perch work reasonably well in AP systems and are pretty easy to pellet train. Pellet trained yellow perch grow FAST. |

I have a friend from South Dakota that has feed trained wallaye. Definitely a cool water fish. I think you can purchase feed trained fingerlings. |

I wouldn't bother with walleye if for no other reason than their incredibly slow growth rate. |
