I was accidently introduced to aquaponics when browsing the net, i've been observing the forum from the sidelines for months , until i set up my system with a 2000 litre tank and 2 simple beds. i raised about 50 red tilapias from 1ins and now it is about 8 ins and around 400gms abt 21/2 months. I planted lettuce, tomatoes, basil , chinese cabbage and mint. the basil did not grow on the growbed (soil Bed) Chinese cabbage died when I planted in the system. Lettuce grew to about 10 ins and died in the system. tomatoes grew very excellently until flowering and then suddently wilted, the plants were about 2 feet. First i thought the sun was too hot (malaysia) so i put up a shed for the plants, but it was not so. The mint were fantastic i have harvested a few times in 2 months
Why is it the Mint survived and the other plants wilted? The fish are very healthy, I don't have a sum tank, just direct to plants and back, but the water is dirty very fast, need recycling of fresh water every 3 days. I have mosquitoes breeding in the growbed ? how to stop the breeding.
Please help?
