Well gooman here is a link that should help, http://www.dunnsfishfarm.com/fish_types.htm
The concern with White crappie is overpopulation, Also White crappie is also know to have growth stunt from overpopulation which is why they are not recommended for ponds under 10 acres. but they are good fodder for bass. The overpopulation can be controled in a closed system like aquaponics. The Black crappie grows faster and doesn't stunt as easily. Down in Louisiana we call them Sac-au-lait or goggle eyes. Lots of fun cane poleing along the cyprus knees.

Oh yeah, they are very good eating. firm flesh that get big enough to filet but definetly good tasting!

Some of the reasons I didn't choose crappie was they do not like comercial feeds, and 1/2 to 1/2 lb per season growth rates. But I have quite a few friends with them in aquariums. For your location I would be looking hard at cold water fish.

Is there any way to control the population in a former swimming pool--now cement pond? Extension people and those who sell them say I'm likely to have 10,000 fish 2" long if I stock them. I get the impression many have tried to control grow with predators and failed.

I did a little research on the crappie. From what I understood it is possible in AP but their diets are going to be tough. Unlike talapia they're picky eaters.

I came to the assumption that Bluegill (sunfish) are going to be better suited for AP as far as North American domestic fish go.
