Post subject:  Silver Perch - weight estimate?

Can anyone give some guidelines of what a silver perch may weight at varying lengths. Just estimate ranges

http://www.nativefish.asn.au/silver.html shows they can grow to 60cm / 8KG WOW

I think I will keep 1 and see how big it will get over a couple of years.

at about 15cm long they would be about 120g

haven't weighed any other silvers for a while, I'll check again on Sunday 8)

27-30cm is around 500 grams...I think beyond that, they start to beef up more rather than grow longer

Great idea!

This info will be very useful once people all contribute their data.

Would be good to have a table like this for each of the main AP fish speces. Would really help new people like me determing feed ratios.

Would be really good to get multiple weights for each length so we can average it out. I am happy to put my hand up to graph the data and post the graphs once we get more numbers.

Graphing will help show the slowdown of length but increase of weight if they do beef up near the end of their growth.

I weighed and mesured 30 Perch a few years ago. The condition of the fish varied a bit hence the differences in weights for similar length fish.
Here you go, this should keep you busy for a while!
1. 395gm 29cm
2. 768gm 35.5cm
3. 238gm 26cm

28. 275gm 27cm
29. 418gm 32cm
30. 580gm 37cm
Iv got a few babys in a tank at the moment so I will get some lengths weights of those. I'm not going to weigh my biguns as I end up breaking a net everytime I try and catch one!!

Troutman that is AWESOME.

As a graph...

edit - added Tim's data, took out Jaymie's estimate, which is now looking a bit optimistic!
also added a cubic regression, which looks better than the exponential one. Cubic makes sense if length is directly proportional to other dimensions, ie double the length, times the volume/weight by 8.

Would be good to keep all the data up to date at the start of the post - excellent idea!

SG, I can send you the spreadsheet by PM if you want, or I'll try to keep up with the thread and add more data to it as we go.

I'm really interested in this, I googlebutted recently but couldn't find any published results for silver perch length v weight (there's a technical term but I can't remember). Once again team BYAP forum to the rescue.

We need more data though...a bit of forum trawling is in order...I'm sure there are heaps of posts around where people have put this info up.
