I am just starting to set up my BYAP system. What fish varieties are available now? Where can I get them in small numbers (50 -100 max)? It is too cold for tropical fish and will soon be too warm for cold water varieties. What do you recommend? Thanks, Tony |

Silver perch are a good all rounder tony. Very hardy, will tolerate sub 10C temps all the way to high twenties+ start feeding at about 15+ with about 22c being ideal (thius is from memory, so don't quote me |

C1, I am in the Perth Hills. Bedfordale. If I can get fish, then I will be forced to make progress to get the system going. Tony ps, I have 4 goldfish in a pond with a F&D plastic laundry trough filled with pea gravel having 2 bean sprouts and one rhubarb plant growing well (although very small). I also am trying 3 foam floating planters (DWC?) with a couple of silverbeet, a cauli (I think - has 2, but insects ate one) and a parsley plant which have all survived a week since I put them in. |

Tony, you might want to try golden ponds in Baldivis, I've bought fish from them before. |

hi Tony, i've been looking everywhere for a local barramundi supplier with little luck. for some reason suppliers are very difficult to find. i know a man does them at freo but i haven't been able to get in touch. its almost as if breeders don't want to be found by small growers. to much messing around when they can just supply large farmers. i could be wrong but its what i have found. if someone was able supply small growers i think there would be enough demand to make a profit. the availability is just not here atm. no wonder the industry here hasn't taken off like other states. |

With regard to fish suppliers, i spoke to Cary from Gidgie last night and he said they are right out of silver perch and that he has been inundated with calls from APers since some programme aired. He said, he could have sold 3m this year if he'd been able to produce them Won't have more till early Dec. He also said it is important to buy from a licensed supplier otherwise the buyer can be in trouble too. He has had enquiries from the eastern states too. So, there goes my plans for silvers for the time being. Will try koi in the shorter term. |

Is there a list of live fish suppliers in WA with contact details? I would like to get some silver perch but don't want to buy 1000s of them, a search for breeders turned up eastern states farms but I couldn't find any small volume suppliers in WA except City Farmers and they proved to be unreliable and very pricy |
