Can anyone tell me how successful are marron in an aquaponics system. We have 2 x1000l fish tanks that gravity feed into 2 x 500l grow beds that drain into a 1000l sump tank then water pumped back into fish tanks. Thanks

The trick is getting them to stay in the tank. Apart from that they will want something to hide in, and stock light - they don't get along very well.

Was thinking 10 per tank and put some different size and lengths of poly pipe in

Also you need to protect power cables on pumps as they will chew them

Not very, you will probably end up with one marron in each tank, if that... :?

Its not impossible to grow marron out in AP, its just difficult. Water quality is paramount. Due to their slow growing nature its my opinion it isnt really worth it to stock them with intentions to grow out to harvest.

Ive had marron for about 12 months now, they will escape if they can... Slow growing too. Personally i wouldn't grow them out if i didnt already have them... Not worth it imo. They live in my sumps with pygmy perch(which seem to do well)

Yabbies maybe.. I have 1 tank with 4 yabs in it doing ok( no fish in it)

4 yabs - that's nearly half an entree!

So besides silver perch what else can you put in ur fish tanks ?

Unfortunately WA is a bit restricted when it comes to fish species. Silver perch all year round, barra in summer, trout in winter. Catfish are another option.

Or bream, long time to grow out though.

Best combo is trout/barra for me
