Hi guys, just getting started in aquaponics, fell in love with hydroponics and seemingly AP is the next step, pretty glad to find this forum. How would I go running an AP setup with Africans and some Catfish to grow/breed/sell. If I can supply the right environment will this style of fish cut the mustard? If not what species produces the most food for the plants not taking into account consuming the fish as I don't plan to. |

you could certainly do ornamental species in an ap system,, you don't have to eat the fish you grow! |

My tropical fish including kribensis, cats, loaches etc all love skrettings pellets that have been softened and sunk. So go for it I reckon |

I guess the major issue would be the Hard alkaline water which African Cichlids are housed in, if these water conditions are suitable for the plants then go for it. Cichlids are living and breeding very happily in Hazelwood pondage down Moe way and have for many years. |

For future reference, there are different cichlids that require different types of water quality. Some leave more waste than others and some require higher levels of pH. This may, or may not, help you in your aquaponic ventures. |
