Did a search and could not find any info regarding the actual spot of iki jime for each of the common Ap species. I'm interested in SP at present.

The method works well if you know where to apply it, otherwise its works horribly!!! better to cut the gill line and snap the neck if the brain cannot be spiked consistently. Or a sharp blow on the noggin!

Anyway if anyone has any handy hints/pics please post away :blackeye:

Thanks Rup - was looking for something a bit more specific as the brain location changes from species to species. I did find this handy doc just now:

Shows SP, rainbow, barras...

its a great doc - after quite a few attempts at doing iki on snapper I gave up as I felt more like a psychotic knife wielding murderer than a human fish dispatcher as I kept missing the spot.

After one look at the salt water species doc I was hitting the brain first go. It's certainly obvious when you get it right as the fish goes limp straight away and the natural colours flood back in.

Excellent summary doc. Thanks.

I've been doing "iki jimi" spiking on my trout, and am pretty sure I'm getting it right most of the time. But occasionally I miss aim with those slippery suckers.

Does anyone know if a few twitches or a tail flick up to 5 mins after dispatch is normal? Or is it an indication you've missed the spot?
