Ell, thats really good news to me, caus i dont need this dam permit for them, and to here that they are going well is music to my ears!

and no, its not faye or joel lol, not sure i should say, rekon WA fisheries might be monitoring this website after some of the discussions i had with them, it was like they new before i said it, creepy actually..

So the SP can be done by a novice you think?

A parallel system would be handy JJ.....

Stock one with perch... the other with trout as the weather cools... and you eat the perch.....

When the weather turns in summer.... just add perch, eat trout

yeah, that sounds like a brilliant idea Rupert.. would you connect the 2 systems or just have alternating cycles of fish?

Would it be wise to have the two systems separate as a sort of backup?

If one system crashes (for any reason) the other system can supply beneficial bacteria and plants for emergencies :D

Another major problem people have is the fish get sick with something like ich (whitespot) or when a system is starting out your fish may experience ammonia burns to their gills (due to high ammonium level spikes). The second tank could be a sort of quarantine and fall back tank.

Keep us up to date with the plant growth.

Nic

Hi Bio, Got off the phone today from the WA fisheries, there response to me wanting a permit for jade perch went like;

"it shouldn't be a problem in the aquarium like set up of AP system, especially when you consider the quantity your after, so put in for a trans location permit, but don't bet on it"

I don't know if this is a yes or a no to getting a permit, but i did find out it would only be good for 12 months anyhow... The fisheries dept is very keen for me to use native species, and truth is if i found one worth it, i wouldn't hesitate. They suggested fresh water cobbler, but i believe it tastes foul!!! So i will put in for a permit or wait 6/8 weeks for the weather to cool down, and put trout in.

Other species mentioned was Murray Cod and Tilapia.

Can anyone suggest a fish species for WA?

hi Jeff,

sounds like a no to me. i still find it hard to believe its going to happen. we shall see though hey. be prepared for the usual run around though.

as for the fresh water cobbler did they suggest where one can buy some stock from? i have been wanting to try them for ages but can't get a hold of any.

i will try hook some up come marron season with a license (in case fisheries read this).

i had no luck fishing for them in the blackwood last year.

good luck to you.

merits both ways.

the good side of combining the tanks is that you can run two beds 12 months of the year.

trout powering it winter perch powering it summer.

maybe a compromise of fitting some ball valves in so that the systems can be isolated from each other at an instant?
