I think you might need to train them onto the floating pellets.

Stop by the pet store, and grab a smallish pack of sinking pellets. Put them in, and see if they go nuts. Then put both sorts in at once, from what I've read, trout are aggressive eaters, once they are lured to the top, I'd imaging it'd be on.

And elsewhere, someone suggested buying a goldfish that will show the others how to feed from the surface..

Hi Mart's I haven't read the other posts but ...............
I know a very well known fresh water fly fisherman here in Victoria.. he can read fish like a book and has spent the past 30yrs on rainbow trout. if your pond temp goes above 20C your fish will not eat, at 21C or more it can be fatal. my tank constantly sits around 20.5 to 22.5 over summer in a greenhouse and he advised me for that reason only not to have rainbow trout or install a cooling device that will constantly keep the temp at 18C ......

I have read of trout surviving above 21°C and as far up to 25°C

Mine are ok at 27 deg with plenty of air

I have some salmon, and on a couple of days, the temperature got up to 26C... They are all alive, but likely did not eat... naturally at the high temperature, the air was doubled

Interestingly, the temperature is now 21C, and both the SALMON and the Silvers, seem to be off food..

Mind you I can't ever tell if the Salmon feed (fingerlings).. Just know they don't die..

The change in my system is that I have changed my pumping practice, and now constant flood overnight..
I have also built a Pneumatic Vacuum-Cleaner (Air-Lift) that performs magically, and the waters are now near crystal clear, and I get the feeling that the Silvers just DON'T like it clear..
I remember the chap who sold us the fish, saying they prefer murky water, and when it was murky, they would really smash the floating food..

Perhaps when they get hungry enuf, they will forgive the clarity..

My jade perch go off the chew if ph drops below 6 ish. After raising it over a few hours to about 6.5 they will feed normally.

I shouldn't really say anything as I am a newbee who knows not a lot but .....here in WA the ag dept people, over a number of years and lots of research, have grown trout that will cope with higher temperatures. When you are discussing what temps they live in you need to factor in that you might have a traditional gene pool or you might not?

How long after moving them have they died? All died around the time when the pump didn't run?
Make sure you have enough flow and a current to swim against. Helps with schooling behavior. If they were reared in a dark environment it will take a few weeks to get used to the pond. Have you got any shade cover over it?

I got a bit lazy, because the vitals never changed... day-after-day..... week-after-week
PH was 6.4ish... I wanted it low to see how the system responded.. but then it dropped to 6

I did report that the fush were not eating..

Well I raised the pH back to 6.3, gradually,
INSTANTLY,
the fish smashed the food and have not stopped... so. Lesson learnt... don't get lazy and presumptuous ...

So.... what was your pH...
