Poor Steve, he's contributed so much to AP (who remembers the autosiphon bathtub experiment?), and the one lasting memory we all have of him is his scuba effort

Well mate, I made the suggestion and I think the reply was something about "ducks being off" or something similar. I didn't quite catch it.

Luckily the water vis is clearing somewhat so unfortunately we may not need Scuba Steve any longer.. Although I'm more of a free diver myself.. Off to Bali in April for a 5 day course.. That'll keep me at the bottom of the tank for at least 3 mins..! Plenty of time to do laps..

Apologies for OT, but...
I spoke to him the other day, he said to say hi to all. He really is SCUBA Steve now... full ticket and diving as often as he can.

I heard he joined the navy seals.....

What.. is he after a free feed of fish now that he doesn't have an AP system...

Feb 8 my fingerlings weighed ave 12gms. March 4 average weight was 36gms. And still all 79 are present and accounted for. No sinkers and no floaters..!

Water temps have hovered b/w 15 - 19 most days, with a number at 20-21 degrees and only 2 days where it reached 24.. So all good so far..

We came home yesterday from the beach and found a fingerling laying on the concrete path.! About 1 metre from the edge of the tank.

Now to get there, this fish must have leapt around 2 - 3 feet out of the water AND past the rim of the tank. Then hit the ground and flapped its way down the path for another few feet..

Looking very dead on the concrete, but then noticing its gills move, it was placed in a bucket of water. Floating belly up but breathing, it came back quite quickly to begin swimming around again. It was then placed back in the tank.

This morning, no dead fish can be seen on the bottom of the tank, but I'm going to be very surprised if it doesn't cark it in the next couple of days.

We have no idea how long it was laying there for or how in the world it managed to jump that far clean out of the water..!

Some mesh is going over the tank now..

Sounds like he's a lucky little fish. I guess when you're talking Salmon they are damn good jumpers.

Certainly are.! I've lost 5 to date. 1 last week even managed to get b/w the tank wall and netting to kamikaze itself

Personally I just love the taste of salmon. It's not the same as anything else. On the other hand I doubt they'd taste the same raised in fresh water as salt water. Might be nice as part of a saltwater AP setup with some seaweed, kelp, and maybe some salt tolerant plant like sea asparagus though.

How can I get Omega 3 whilst being a vegetarian? Obviously Omega 3 is good for your brain and I want to get as many nutrients as possible. I know that you can have different vitamins to be healthy but I'd like to get them all. Is Omega 3 contained in anything but fish?

You can find it in various nuts, algae, etc. There is some question of whether it is as effective as the form found in animals.
