There I was, surfing around, looking at fish suppliers in the USA. I was mostly interested in Tilapia, of course, but I look at everything. This supplier in the San Francisco would seem to have barramundi.  So how many perch in the world can be called barramundi?? Do you think these are the Aussie fish??

I had a look around, I couldn't see perch-barramundi listed on his species list pages. Look for Lates calcarifer as the species name. |

no, I saw the perch-barra bit, but I couldn't find a link to see if it is L. calcarifer or not. Common names are, well, not always common to a particular species if you get what I mean. Some of the other lists gave species names, but not the one with perch-barra. |

I know of a local guy who is involved in an aqua farm in the USA where they are growing Australian Barra and talapia - I will see if I can find out more info as to which state etc (being hols he is away with family at the moment, but I will ask his friends if they know where the programme is set up)... Who knows, maybe they would sell to APers |

Barramundi have quite a few names... giant perch, palmer perch and sometimes mistakenly called nile perch (which they did at Dreamworld). http://www.nativefish.asn.au/barramundi.html It is very hard to find a particular fish species out of the hundreds of different variations. Especially when they all have different namess from country to country. |

Hi Janet... here's a link to one company in the US doing big business with barramundi. They operate an indoor farming facility in Turners Falls, Massachusetts and their web site says they "sell" barra US Barra |

Hi Rupert, As far as I can tell, yes they sell Barra--on ice and in boxes. Not still swimming. Maybe if I just knock on their door? |
