My new ibc system is up and running and I'm going to let everyone else decide on what I should get, I have access to both silvers and jades, so I suppose the question is what tastes better?

Grow both and find out. You will get to try the jades first and will have to wait a few months more for a silver
I cant answer as have only tried Jade

Well this is just my opinion, having had both, but Jades grew quicker And tasted better than silvers. They are quite oily and you need to find a way of cooking them that works for you, but it is worth it :) After our first go with Silvers ad jades at the same time, there is no way we would get silvers again. :)

Interesting thread. If Jades taste better then I would have thought they would be a more popular aquaculture species especially given that they also grow faster. According to the production figures of Qld aquaculture produce there was 88 tones of Silvers and only 41 of Jades produced!
The market obviously prefers the Silvers, probably due to the lower fat content of the flesh.

Yeah, weren't they trying to breed a lower oil Jade?

I found the jades growth rate to rival that of trout, but you need to have the water temps to do it.

I would guess that is what the figures are reflecting.... the temperature tolerances or silvers being a more reliable produce that jades rather than taste?

I dont know of anyone farming Jades in WA and they are not on fisheries approved species list.
I know of several people who have brought them in from Qld but most died over the winter. Perth winters are usually to cold for year round survival of jades unless you are prepared to heat the water.
