Hi all, Here in York it is already starting to get chilly in the night time. I have 25 Silvers at 300mm+ and 25 Barra at 200mm+ in a 3000l tank. I figure the Barra's are going to start dying soon. I had hoped they would be bigger by now but I figure I should start eating them. How do I get them out of there without stressing the silvers or me out too much? BTW way chilli's have gone mad this year. I have chilli's I am too scared to eat! J

Hi John, Are you able to lower the water level in the tank? Maybe plug up the stand pipe in the BG's and flood them, this will make it a little easier to catch the Barra with less water for them to move around in. I'm guessing just use a huge net and go slow till you have all the Barra out. Would love to see some photos of the fish! Be sure to let us know how you go! |

That sounds good Gnash, I am at 180 Avon Terrace in the back. Opposite the sandalwood yards. If you want to call 0447 686 566 I shall make sure I am here. I would appreciate your input and suggestions for my system. John |

Agree lower the water level, But search forum for "Oil of Cloves" which will calm the fish right down and then can take your Barra and recirculate your water for the others.Could have taken a couple of mine tonight when during feeding they got a bit excited and a couple got caught up in the bird netting I have covering the tank. They are 12 months old and well over plate size, had to cut the netting on one to release. |

Tell me more about oil of cloves. I am a dentist and oil of cloves is what makes dentists offices the way they do. It has been used since Ancient Egypt. I just happen to have a litre of the stuff here, how do I use it. John |

Clove oil can be added to the water to anesthetize the fish, pretty much puts them to sleep. It is pretty much banned in aquaculture to to the cumulative effects on the fish. It is ok for the odd fish harvest though. It's just not hte thing you'd use weekly thats all. I seem to recall a 5 ml per 1000 litre dose rate? Rupe can you confirm? Gnash wont want fish, he'll want beer lol. |
