With all the fish species now used for AP around the world i thought it would be interesting to start a poll on which of the major (im limited to 10 options) fish species everyone prefers for AP? I personally luurve trout, but theyre only cold water, so i would consider silver perch the most practical fish for AP for my system lets see what happens hey |

The catfish could easily become my favs if they keep eating through winter and keep growing like they are

my tandanus lives in a pond thats shaded, its cold in summer and downright painful in winter, and he eats the whole way thru. had him about 4 yrs and i reckon he'd be 400mm long

Sounds promising, I have some that are a 100mm already. Its easy to tell as they swim past the 100mm riser tube in the tank. |

I gave a vote for tilapia, they are pretty cool fish even if I can't grow them. Would have also given a vote for carp as well.. |

Quote: If this were an American based forum then maybe the tilapia numbers's would be higher. The laws are more lenient about invasive species. Dave you're in the warm part of the country. The cost of heating would turn many Americans toward the North part of the country away from raising Tilapia. Of course the southern most states do have weather which allows for growing Tilapia and are probably better for AP than most other places in the U.S. While I like tilapia and they are neat, I'm not a big fan, taste wise they are kind of bland and lack the flavor of perch, bluegill, trout and catfish. I would vote for any of these before tilapia. For disclosure purposes I voted for trout Fried Catfish with hushpuppies make Catfish my second choice even though I hate cleaning them. |

I love my Barra as they are sly and cagey- I have to creep up to them on the ground on all fours just to look over the side of the tank- then they spook but love their food
