Hi its the time just be careful Talking to a friend last night on the phone he went and got his trout 100 at 60c each [a real good price ] from buxton brought them home floated the bags to equalize temp let them into his system and lost 70 Buxtons trout are healthy so why did he loose them buxtons water is 8 ph probley with the run of from the farms his water is under 7 so if buying from buxtom bring them home put them in a container and gradually add your water over a day to balance the ph |

Did he lose them straight away? Cause I also grabbed 100 from buxton and did the same thing without any loss. I also needed to travel about 2 hours to get home. I had 40 to a bag. They were kept tightly in boxes in the boot so not much movement. I also salted to 3ppt. |

Yup...we are playing with lives here. Right from the point of bagging we should ensure: Enough room and oxygen to last the trip. Dark, cool and stable environment for the trip. Ensure no delay from hatchery to fishtank. Once home salt to 3ppt Place unopenned bag in fishtank for 20mins Cant really accomodate PH shock, but at least do all you can to ensure best survival. |

Im about to pick up some trout in VIC I have a LONG way to travel home so can either go Ballarat or Buxton - who is recommended? Im planning 60 fish total, 2x 30 in ~60 L of water each I will have a 60lph air pump running two large aerators Will they make it 8 hrs home?? |

There is another Fishfarm in Maldon (20 mins outta bendigo) i got 52 from there couple of weeks ago, no losses. (paid for 50) Depending on where ur coming from may be closer, than both ball or bux. Ballarat is $1.10 per 3 to 4 inch fingerling with a $2.20 bag charge. Buxton is $0.60 per 3 inch, $1 per 5 inch and $4 per 12 inch Maldon is $1.50 per 3 to 4 inch There is another hatchery near Emerald. $1.50 per 4inch and $2 for yearlings Have a look where you may be comin from and what makes more sense. Maybe buxton is worthwhile to buy more than you want to cater for losses. |

how loing will trout last in a esky though, to acclimatise them? (with a air stone form the system obviously) ?? and how long does it take to swap the water out to acclimatise the fish? |

The way i do it i put the new bag in the fish tank open it and clip it to the side and every 5 min put a dipper of fish water in the bag till it overflows then keep doing it for 1/2 hr total |

Just did KM count, Both Buxton and Maldon are similar distance to home ~ 750km (Buxton has 150km more to get there though) |

Just to clear up my fish only travel 1 hr and i sit the baged fish in an esky only when i put the fish in the tanks at home do i open the bags |

Yes 750 is a long way, Ive been speaking to Rupe but doesnt look good, as Im in Vic this week for work only the extra couple of hundred km is my cost. To be clear I have 2 x 70+ L plastic boxes, plan is to put fish in bags inside them, aerators inside bags, 13mm hose as vent. I guess I could leave them with just oxygen in bags for part of the way? |

Are the boxes water proof if so put the fish in the boxes in there bags then 3/4 fill the boxes with the farm water and after 1/2 way just slowley empty the fish into the new water with the bubblers also ask the farm how long they recon the fish are safe in the oxygen bags |
