700 pounds of U.S. farm raised catfish. These are channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, to be specific. Had an order for 5000 fish total.

Thanks EB  Here's an extremely large catfish that really stood out in the loading net full of one pound fish. Provided my scale was correct (which I believe it is) the total weight went down 6 pounds when I pulled this big one out. The tank doors are 3 feet square, the fish is laying on the underside of an open door.

yea, 24 inch long 6 pound fish. I've had those. Funny thing, the 10 pound fish was still only about 24 inches long just bigger around. |

I think I recall seeing pics of your big fish. How long did it take to get that size in AP? |

I had the 10 lb fish for two years. It was an advanced fingerling when I got it so I figure the fish must have been 3 years old when we finally ate her. I can grow out a regular 5 inch fingerling to some where between 3-5 lb easily in a year and I have had fingerlings get to 6 lb in a year. |

yea, nice and warm for them here most of the year. they only quit eating for a short period in the winter usually. |

cool indeed, i would have to keep all the albinos and put them in a pond of their own. then send them to me

Big Worm, wondered where you were, thought the fishes ate you. I have kept albinos in their own pond, spawned them and raised all albinos. They seem more susceptible to disease. Or maybe they are more susceptible to birds, crawdads and such that cause injury leading to disease. They taste the same as normal catfish. |

I've got an albino catfish swiming around in the pool. He does stand out.

i been messing around on the farm the last few days, converting the deer cooler into a heated, growlight lit seed starting room. time to get seeds in the pots going. |
