Do these fish have white eyes?

I got given two monsters for school! 8)

They have white eyes, proper pupils and stuff .. not like cateracts or anything ... they sure look creepy!

Lovely white stripe down the back of the big one!

They feed carnivore pellets out of my fingers!

J7, all my pics are in water. Sounds like barra you have. If I go anywhere near the tank with any sort of receptacle that looks like it could catch them, they are off!. Then they hide for a few hours, but eventually their stomachs get the better of them and they come out to feed LOL

Oh yeah, J, at least half of mine have the stripe still, and they seem happy enuf. Collectively feeding a kilo of food every 5 days ATM

I will have to try again at their afternoon feeding time... they were FAR too quick for me this morning (I am using a net - hooks come when its time to be eaten)

part of the thing with the stripe is that it is age/size dependant. The fry and fingerlings all have stripes up to a certain size (can't remember what, sorry) but over about 15cm or so, the stripe is a stress indicator.

How big are your barra now Mon?

LOL, getting over that 15cm for about half of them. The rest are between 10 and 15 I guess. They don't sit still long enough to get out the ruler :twisted:

I think we all need to install a mesh net at the bottom of our tanks on runners. Then when we want to inspect the fish pull the net right up to below the surface. Easy accesable fish for measuring. And none hiding. My grandparents used to set up this on their boat in the hold. Easy way to get the fish out at the canning factory. And if you get a good net it will last a long time. Just ask all those environmentalists that are talking about lost fish nets that are all over the ocean floor.
