Hi All, Was wondering if any of you have seen this with Jade perch before? Attachment: dead1.jpg [ 34.71 KiB | Viewed 3547 times ] Attachment: dead2.jpg [ 36.35 KiB | Viewed 3547 times ] Went out to system 2 days ago and saw this fellow swimming around having trouble with bouyancy. Had a look on here and thought it might be a float bladder problem. Added a bit of salt to the water and stopped feed. This morning he was still swimming but not looking great. Went out all day and came home to him floating. Did a water test 3 days ago Ph 6.4 (this is fairly constant!) ammonia - 0 Ni 0 Na 80ppm+ System has been great all plants growing well. Day time temps are around 30c Only new variable is I transplanted some lettuce seedlings we bought from B with all potting mix washed out? Any ideas welcome. Thanks |

I'm no expert yet, but 80ppm for nitrates is sorta on the high side? is 80ppm within your normal range? Are the rest of fish OK? |

BM 80ppm is within my normal range - it has been a lot higher. RupertofOz has stated a few times on the forum fish would need very, very high nitrates to really affect them. I think its up around the 2000ppm Good news on the rest - I heavily salted the water, the fish are doing great. lost a couple of plants but they are easily replaced;) |

Yeah, 80 is not a lot nitrates, though the fact that there's any there at all means you need to get some more plants in your GBs |

Fish pathologist told me (posted somewhere) Nitrates of 500ppm is ok, Nitrates will affect breeding, breeding is not something we expect in ap, more plants will bring down the nitrates though, but bacteria are working if low amm and nitrites, nitrates are what plants want so more plants, I no sweet fa about Jades and salt tolerance, but them pics if trout or silvers, salt would be the suggested solution, it looks like a fungus type virus |
