Anyone want to make a stab at the stocking level of yabbies in a 2 metre round tank? What about IBC's?

About 10 adult size yabbies in each square metre with sufficient hides... they need more horizontal space then vertical space...

I was afraid someone would say that.

I have a 2m fishtank so about 4m2 of floorspace.

So 40 yabbies or less...

Well...I should have 100 of the little devils coming which are about 75mm to 100mm

Time to get the saw out and make a few hides....

Doubtful... what do you do for your past-time?? Wii?? Cycle?? AP??

Yabbies past-time is arm combat until one loses a limb or to the death...

I better start saving up my milk and jiuce bottles to create a system of isolation! :D

I looked at some EDU pictures and they look suspiciously like 300ml juice bottles!

hey VLT of the tanl is deep enough why not try double layering the yabbies with a false floor :dontknow:
atleast then you'd have 2 layers of 50 yabbies, closer to the recc. stocking rate :)

nah...my system is 1 2000L fishtank pumped to growbeds who drain back to fishtank.

I have 2000 litres of growbeds

So not alot of room for double layering....

I have 3 IBC's that have been cut to 700 litres which I can use, but I had promised those to m3tal. Once my mum finishes with them, I'll see if jamie still wants them.

I had about 60 of the stupid creatures once. Between them killing each other and the catfish massacring the rest I am down to 3 now :upset:

Here is a thought  , ever wonder why (when you get yabbies from a dam  ) there are lots of them.
Apart from the water mass I believe its the water colour, they just can't see each other hence less fighting.
Another tip may just be sexing the yabbies and placing the males in your system only as they shouldn't get as territorial with no girls about.

The only way to fully stop the destruction of each other would be to remove the main pincer claws from the animal (they will actually grow back over time), this is a bit cruel but nothing close to the crap they do to themselves.

Just a thought
