Just wondering how i would go adding some Silvers 50-60mm to the tank with my Trout that are between 100-250mm. plan on harvesting the bigger trout as soon as they seem big enough, but i wouldnt mind getting some silvers going soon. also thinking if not i could put the silvers in a 200L barrel inline with my FT Until i grow the trout out to the point where i could Swap the Trout into the smaller tank if there was only 3-4 left and put the 20-30 odd Silvers in my Main Tank. wouldnt mind just getting 20 more trout but its going to get too bloody hot for them :/ very interested in seeing how the shadehouse controls temps... |

My guess is, if you put them all in the same tank. Trout fat and happy, silvers nil! I would go with the 2nd option of separate tanks than add them to the main tank once you have taken out the trout. My 2 cents worth. |

... Just of note, my SP and rainbows have been co-habitating just fine for the last few months. I have fish of both varieties and of varying sizes (SP - 100-160mm and trout 150-300mm) No fatalities, no stress - all are growing jus' fine. I have heard that territorial issues can prevail - in so far as if the SP are in the tank first, then they should be okay. If the trout were the first in, then SP added, then chances are their days are numbered. |

Hi all, This is my first post after lurking here for a while trying to learn as much as I can . looking at putting in a 3 bed system on a 3000l tank (for future expansion) and for water quality stability. Anyhow have looked in the forum and so far not found an answer to this question. If one has been posted my apologies in advance - just point me in the right direction. Anyhow back to the question. Looking at putting the system in around August with fishless cycling completed in September ready for fish. I was looking at putting Silver perch (at 50% capacity of the system) in as I will be coming into summer and then in the autumn when the temps drop put in trout. Will this work? I appreciate as this tread has pointed out that the trout would love it if it was the other way around. Would I be able to continue to do this as the SP get bigger or would they be inclined to have a trout snack.Cheers marc |

Thats the beauty of haveing a 2,3,4 or ,5. tank system if the trout can fit a silver in its mouth it will eat it |

Thanks for the info. I follow the concept that if a trout can fit a Silver in mouth it will eat it, so the Silvers will just have to grow fast enough over summer to not be snack size by the time the trout arrive in say May. Does this seem reasonable? But then as I understand it they stop growing due to the low temps and the trout start to grow, perhaps into something that could fit a silver in its mouth, I have a problem. Hmm seemed like a nice concept. Perhaps I will need to just stay with the Silvers. I would love to have multiple tanks but that mean multiple pumps and given that continuous power is a luxury not and given where we live. With the need to have backups would having multiple tanks increase the chance of a system failure? Cheers Marc |

no need for multiple pumps if you incorporate 2 tanks into your design (says he with 2 pumps in one tanks |
