Hi,
Just wondering about breeding of Silver Perch, we have an aquaponics set up in Geraldton WA and have just discovered lots of little babies in our tank.

You'd be one of the first that I have heard of to have breeding Silvers in AP accidentally lol

You would have the aquaculture community rather jealous, I would predict. They are neagatively bouyant, have to be injected to spawn, require phytoplankton and zoo plankton at specific sizes or it is too big for them to feed on, if they run out they starve, I fell asleep after that. Perhaps tadpoles or is there some other species in the tank? Excioting, none the less. Keep us posted Lisa and Wayne.

Well we must have a miracle, I will try for photos tomorrow.
Theres definately little ones swimming around with the big ones that we didn't put there.
The plants on that tank have gone into overdrive lately, maybe we have fluked some perfect conditions. Not so good with our Barramundi though only 5 left.

If they're swimming around... and big enough to see.... they'd have to be older than 2-3 weeks...

Which would mean they would have had to have spawned end of September.... way early...

And I suspect tank temps would have been too cold...

Sorry, but seems beyond the realms of miraculous...

I put 40 silvers in last November and they were only about 25mm. Most of them are now about 15-17cm but there are still 4 that swim around together and have only grown to about 4cm. Maybe what you are seeing is just a few that havnt fed as much as the others :dontknow:

Well, Mary was made a saint yesterday so I suppose miracles can happen, but not that one :lol: if it has happened and you do have baby silvers actually swimming right now from a spawn this year I will give you my left leg, my boat and my wife.

I enquired about breeding SP on the forum and was told that nobody had done it before.

you can have my old boat Ruoe, its for sale for about $4500. Cruise craft fish ski. 115 hp evinrude, does 55 kph on the water. Have just replaced it with a 7 metre aluminium fishing boat 8)

nice try, :naughty: attempting to sneak the wife in on that deal, but I think they at least deserve the new boat if they have to take the wife too.


I have heard that gambusia eggs can remain viable even when dried out for a long period of time. Could it be possible that the FT "Lisa & Wayne" are using has perviously contained Gambusia, of whom the eggs have been reanimated or have been transported from else where, eg by birds etc...?
