Post subject:  Marron ?

I'm looking at getting a few Marron, I've got a 3000lt FT and will be stocking with Barra very shortly.
to help them survive, I've taken some plastic bread crates trimmed the ends off, drilled holes in them and made them marron friendly, and will add some galv chicken wire over the bottom to help raise them to the surface, I think with about 2 to 3 of these on the bottom of my tank I can accommodate ~ 20 marron (is that too many, or would it hold more?)

Now sourcing Marron, I've found a couple of places one is wholesale minimum 10KG.
Is anyone else interested in joining in the order (1kg is anywhere from 5-14 marron depending on size).
Alternatively any other sources around Perth
Also anyone know where to get the Blue Marron from, Nocky, I notice you have/had some ?

Cheers

There is a guy at gidgegannup who sell the normal brown ones. Can't remember his number but if you google marron for sale you should find the list of sellers :thumbright:

Ivan's question is pretty valid phred.

The zinc in the galv is toxic to fish and crustaceans, particularly crustaceans !

Ah yep. Ivan (& CD).... valid point, hadn't thought of that one.... ok any suggestions of an alternative. you just saved the lives of many crustaceans... well maybe just extended their lives to be sacrificed for food instead.

Maybe two crates screwed together with stainless steel screws ? I only have 3 of them so will need to "find" 3 more crates

Gday gang - i know a guy that gets them cheap, smaller ones under 100g were about $27/kg and the larger ones about 170g were about $32/kg. He does small orders too. Will search for his price list and photos of sizes and post them to the forum.

And no wuckins might have a better deal.... maybe his source won't need 10kg minimums.

Ok I found a source down south for $24 per kg (sized around 100-150mm)

he's coming up this friday, with delivery cost of $25, (which we'll all split)

I need to let him know by tomorrow afternoon how many are interested, as he has to lay traps tomorrow evening.

hi red beard - thats exactly who I get them from. I found his pricing:

70 - 100g = $27.00
101 - 130g = $29.00
131 - 160g = $32.00
161 - 200g = $35.00
201 - 250g = $39.00
251 - 300g = $41.00

his delivery fee was $12 and it doesnt matter whether that is for 1kg or 10.

A: 40 - 70g
B: 71 - 100g
C: 101 - 130g
D: 131 - 160g
E: 161 - 190g
F: 191 - 250g
The largest marron in the photo is about 220g and is 18cm to the tip of his claws with the tail tucked under.
