Woohoo.....

Yesterday after everyone left, I was having a bit of a look at the yabby barrels and noticed dozens of tiny yabbies sitting on one of the pipes.. Went and had a closer look today, and there are loads of them in at least two of the half barrels.. It's a shame I hadn't noticed them earlier to show people..

Must go and get some bird netting to stick in the barrels, I've ead before that when you have tiny baby yabbies they love to hide inside scrunched up bird netting..

it probably just a moult, i think it usually goes the other way, with mum snacking on the babies ;)

Thats a moulted shell for sure, and yeah plastic mesh bags for onions/oranges are the best thing for them to hide in. Scrunch one up and put it into one of the pipes.

The commercial Marron farmers dont use the onion/orange bags any more as the the material tends to fray and the Marron/Yabbies get caught in it and eventually die. Shadecloth or Marron Mesh (believe it or not) are a safer bet.

shade cloth at a price premium? LOL, nah, just kidding, wait for troutman to answer :)

Folded shadecloth (perhaps stuffed into a pvc pipe) would probably work well, the yabbies can get a decent foothold on it but wouldn't get caught in it, and when folded up the littlies could climb in and hide from the larger ones.
